I am pleased to nominate Malanda Seafood to be recognised as an excellent Queensland Seafood Business
(small business category). I cannot emphasise strongly enough what a contribution this business makes to
seafood lovers and our community on the Atherton Tablelands.

Malanda Seafood proprieters, Karen Miller and Mark Gray are passionate about supporting our high quality
sustainable Queensland seafood industry and sustainably harvested locally caught and processed seafood.
Malanda Seafood is a reliable source of best quality seafood of the highest quality. Their business model would
make this business successful in any market including the largest and most competitive of our capital cities. We
are extremely lucky to have access to their top quality produce on the Atherton Tablelands.
They clearly label their own fish locally caught in FNQ by Mark on his boat and then supplement this with only the
best quality fish and crustaceans and other seafood products from other businesses that share their passion for
sustainably managed fisheries.
Over the recent years Karen has built up a range of other product lines that support other FNQ businesses and
Australian seafood enterprises. She has also built her social media presence and regularly provides new and
interesting seafood recipes – usually weekly – that are ‘must tries’. She either sources the recipes herself or
shares those sent to her by her loyal customer base.

I am a loyal customer and a very keen seafood lover and amateur foodie/cook. I feel very privileged to be able to
purchase the quality of seafood that Malanda Seafood supplies. This business is a FNQ, Tablelands and
Malanda gem!!

Malanda Seafood is a great supporter of our local community and Chamber of Commerce. Our local community
returns this support because they want to support such a high quality local business and thank Karen and Mark
for the important role they play in our community. From my conversations with other locals since joining this
community in 2012 I know that we believe we are the envy of many small towns in rural Queensland who would
love to have access to the top quality locally sourced seafood that we do in the Tablelands. Thanks to Karen and
Mark, and their family and friends who staff the business, and provide us with the highest standard Queensland
seafood equivalent to if not better to anywhere else in Queensland.

Kind Regards
Dr Kevin Harding

My partner and I have travelled extensively in Australia and are very familiar with how hard it is to buy quality wild caught fish, even in places known to operate fishing fleets.

We therefore appreciate that Malanda, being a small inland town, has a family seafood shop. The family sells wild caught fish using their own boat/boats in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Even seafood that come from other areas of Australia, has been sourced for its quality, before being sold.

Karen, as one of the proprietors, started this shop and has made it into a thriving business, which has a large customer base. We have been customers of Malanda Seafood since commencement of trading.

Karen and her staff are very friendly.

Karen is knowledgeable about her products and takes time to answer questions. Karen deserves acknowledgement and she has our full support.

“Karen & Mark of Malanda Seafood are amazing, just like their fresh, wild caught, Far North Queensland seafood. Using sustainable and market leading fishing practices, they deliver some of the best quality seafood available on the market! As the face of Malanda Seafood, Karen’s customer service, seafood knowledge and desire to deliver nothing but the best wild caught seafood to her customers is what makes this business an absolute standout up here in the Far North. Always so willing to provide quality recommendations, make the customer experience seamless and enjoyable, as well as always going out of her way to make purchase, pickup or delivery as simple and easy as possible to ensure happy, smiling and returning customers. The advocacy and loyalty of her customers is a true demonstration of her customer service finesse, her respect for the finest of produce and makes her a true local business ambassador that the Tablelands should be very proud to showcase. I for one will never buy my seafood from anyone else. I can always be assured to receive exactly what I want and need to create my delicious Seafood delicacies and happily recommend Malanda Seafood to anyone looking to entice their tastebuds with the best the Far North has to offer. Well done guys!!!”
